A good headset allows you conduct calls with good audio & microphone quality. This means that you can easily hear others, and others can hear you when you speak. An added bonus is a wireless headset that allows you to speak hands-free. This saves you from hurting your hands or neck when holding a phone. It also allows you to type or write during a call.
My go-to choice is the Logitech H800 Wireless Headset (click here to check current price on Amazon). I have tried others in the past, but this one is the easiest to use. The sound quality is good, and the microphone is never in the way. It has all of the features I love, without any of the hassles of a cord. You can read more about the details below.
Logitech H800 – Features and Benefits
The Logitech H800 Wireless Headset is a great choice when telecommuting, for several reasons. The battery life is long. The buttons on the headset let you make adjustments easily, without using the mouse or keyboard. There is even a secret compartment, so you can be like James Bond! I will explain more about these features below.
The Logitech H800 Wireless Headset need not always connect to the computer by a cord. This is a huge plus if you like to walk around while taking calls or listening to music. The headset comes with a tiny USB receiver, which you can plug in to any USB port on your computer. You can find pictures with the USB receiver below. The wireless range is 40 feet. I have found that I can keep listening to music with the headset, even when I go upstairs.
The headset is rechargeable, with a battery that lasts 6 hours. I have found that it charges quickly, usually within a couple of hours. If you run out of power, you can plug in the charging cord and keep on going. This works fine, but remember that this “chains” you to the computer by a 4.5 foot long cord.
The Logitech H800 Wireless Headset has a noise cancelling microphone. Even with background noise (fan, dehumidifier, etc.), no one has trouble hearing me on a call. The microphone is never in the way – I don’t even notice it when I am on a call. I also like that the microphone is retractable. Conveniently located on the right side of the headset, you can tuck it away when not in use.
Great Sound Quality
The Logitech H800 Wireless Headset gives you great sound quality. I find that I can always hear callers perfectly on a Skype call. Music sounds great with this headset as well.
The Logitech H800 Wireless Headset has several buttons on the headset itself that makes it easy to use. There are four buttons on the outside of the right earpiece. You can use them easily during a call, without removing the headphones. There is a raised dot for each one, so that you know where it is without looking.
First, there are the volume + and – buttons on the top and bottom of the right earpiece. These allow you to control the volume while on a call, in case someone else’s microphone is loud or quiet. This is much easier than adjusting the system sound inside the computer.
Second, there is a “mute microphone” button, which is on the left side of the right earpiece. This is convenient if you want to mute yourself on a conference call without touching the mouse.
Finally, there is a “play/pause/take call” button, which is on the right side of the right earpiece. This allows you to answer an incoming call hands-free, without clicking on a button in Skype.
Many headsets are stiff, inflexible, and uncomfortable. The Logitech H800 Wireless Headset is not one of those. There is cushioning at the top of the headset and on the earpieces. This makes them comfortable, even when wearing them for hours. You can also adjust the length on both sides. If you are one of those people with a huge or small noggin, no problem!
You can fold the Logitech H800 Wireless Headset to take up a smaller space. This makes them easy to store when traveling.
There is also a secret removable compartment for the USB receiver, so that you don’t lose it while traveling! This makes me feel like James Bond, so of course I love this feature. If you travel a lot, you will probably love it too.
Conclusion – Logitech H800 Wireless Headset
I have had this headset for well over two years, and it is still running perfectly. For my part, I have never had any trouble with it. This is great, considering that I use it almost daily for at least a couple of hours’ worth of calls. I also listen to music while working for several hours most days. Thus, it has seen plenty of wear and tear, and keeps on going. At a price of $63.99 (as of this writing, June 17, 2018), you can’t go wrong with this headset. If it lasts you 3 years, that is $21.33 per year, or about $1.78 per month. Definitely worth the price for good sound and microphone quality, hands-free workflow, and long-range wireless capability.
